HeadSmart running team raise valuable funds at British 10K
A team of runners headed to London to take part in the British 10K to raise funds for our HeadSmart campaign!
Runners take on British 10K for HeadSmart!
The miserable British summer weather didn’t dampen the spirits of 25,000 runners in London on Sunday 8th July, including a team of runners from across the UK who ran for HeadSmart, the national campaign created to raise awareness of the symptoms of brain tumours in children and young people in the UK.

HeadSmart history
The HeadSmart campaign was the brainchild of The Brain Tumour Charity (formerly Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust), the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. It was born out of the concern that was developing among health professionals and parents about the length of time it was taking to diagnose brain tumours in children, thus delaying treatment. 500 children are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year in the UK. Studies show that the sooner the tumour is diagnosed and treatment commences, the better the outcome for the patient. HeadSmart has produced symptom cards for the public and health professionals to help them recognise the symptoms of brain tumours in children and young people. Support
The HeadSmart runners were cheered along the way by The Brain Tumour Charity staff and supporters, who wanted to show their appreciation for their efforts. Lucy Knight, Fundraising Manager at The Brain Tumour Charity thanked the runners for taking part in the run. “These runners have shown great determination and grit in completing the course in this weather but they have also raised valuable funds that will help us continue to spread the HeadSmart message across the UK. We couldn’t do the work we do without this kind of support.”
