Clinical trial offers rare hope to over 70s diagnosed with a brain tumour
Research funded by The Brain Tumour Charity into high grade gliomas, the most common type of malignant brain tumour in adults, has led to a new clinical trial in patients over 70. This patient group is often excluded from clinical trials because of their age. The trial will investigate the additional benefit of a drug called hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to radiotherapy. 227 runners at the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire braved the chilly and wet autumn weather on Sunday to take part in the UK leg of one of the biggest fundraising initiatives on the planet, raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity, a charity chosen by the organisers of the UK Terry Fox Run for the sixth year in a row. Annual Joseph Foote Ball wows guests yet again!
The ball, now in its 14th year, is held to raise crucial funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, while paying tribute to a Solihull boy who sadly lost his life to a brain tumour in 2007. Significant funds were raised to fund research into brain tumours as well as over one hundred guests pledging to raise £1,000 each over the next year! (6 March 2013)
