Combining the challenging and the spectacular, be a part of #TheBrainyBunch as we walk through valleys, trek through sand dunes and climb up to plateaus. This charity trek is an event you will never forget, making memories and lifelong friends along the way.
Day one will begin as you board the plane travelling the almost 2,000 miles to Morocco. After a night's rest at the local Moroccan hotel, day two will see us head to 'The Door of the Desert', Archbarou. You'll enjoy panoramic views of Saghro (a volcanic massif) as we trek for two hours before reaching Mecissi, and then, our first camp and an oasis both metaphorically and literally, M'Harech.
Day three will kick-off with a traditional berber breakfast (a mix of cakes, breads and other delicious and body-fuelling food) to get your strength up as you face four hours of undulating sand dunes before reaching the dry Rhris River for lunch and a break in the midday sun. We'll travel along the riverbed until we reach nomadic communities and camp two, beneath the O'Hare Gorge.
We'll cut through the dramatic gorge on day four, our half way point. This will be a tough but spectacular day as you climb over the multi-coloured rocks of Jebel El Mrakib. Take in the views as you pass through the spectacular pinks, blues, and oranges of the rocks and, as the sand dunes die away, we will be faced with an open expanse as we hit our next camp, exposed to the desert winds, in the Palm groves. Refreshing!
And you'll need every moment of this refresh as we come into day five where we will cover 27km starting along the dry Rhris River and re-emerging onto the low sand dunes, and rocky, sandy terrain before finally reaching the next camp at the bottom of the Bouzaine dunes; some of the biggest in the region, with breath-taking views across the desert.
Two thirds of the way and the final day of trekking will see us head straight up and over a dramatic ridge of high dunes, passing plenty of Acacia and Tamarisk trees, with their protruding branches casting revitalising shade. We will continue closer to the palm groves of the nomadic villages, the final camp and… the finish line!
Your next two days will be spent travelling back. You will return to Ouarzazate but don't worry, you won't be walking – a 4x4 will pick you up and take you back along the Tafilalet Road, Tineghir, and the Kasbah trial, experiencing unforgettable views, and back in time for your final night in Morocco.
Whether it was the heat, the wind, the sheer amount of walking – or perhaps the feeling of elation and self-pride that it is day eight, and you have completed an inspiring and outstanding challenge all in the name of defeating brain tumours and helping others, expect plenty of emotion as we head back to the airport and say goodbye, Morocco.
If this sounds like a challenge right up your desert road, then sign up now through the Charity Challenge website.
