Marathon training day

Kick start your London Marathon journey with our training day led by professional running coach Sarah Russell. Don't be nervous, the training day is suitable for all runners!

Venue: Tonbridge School Centre, London Road, Tonbridge, TN10 3AD

How to Get There: The school is about 15 mins walk from Tonbridge Station Head for the Pavilion next to the running track.

Coach: Your coach is Sarah Russell. Sarah is an ex-international rower and multi marathon runner with years of experience, and she leads her very own running club in Kent. She is a highly qualified running coach and clinical exercise specialist with an Msc in sport science. She has 25 years experience in coaching runners and has run 22 marathons herself. She is passionate about helping people enjoy running and specialises in new/beginner runners.

She is being supported by Evie Serventi, a sport psychologist and triathlete.

Itinerary

Please arrive at 9:45 ready to begin at 10:00.

  • 10:00-11:00
    • Track session with warm up and drills. If you're a beginner, don't worry, this isn't about how fast you can run a lap!
  • 11:00-11:30
    • Shower/change
  • 11:30-15:30 (with a break for lunch)
    • Presentations from Sarah Russell and Sarah Moore, which will include their personal experiences of marathon training and how your support with make a difference to those affect by a brain tumour
    • A practical session with foam rollers

Tea and coffee will be provided on the day but please bring a packed lunch with you.

Recommended Accommodation

If you don't live locally to Kent (or would like to make the day into a weekend away!) there is a Rose and Crown Best Western Hotel only 5 minutes walk from the center of the town. This hotel is also under 15 minutes walk away from the training day at Tonbridge School Centre!

What to Bring

1. Wear running clothes and lots of layers, hats gloves etc, as we'll be outside even if weather is bad

2. Bring your own lunch and snacks and water bottle/drinks. There is a fridge and microwave for your use at lunch, but no shop or café on site. We'll provide tea and coffee and biscuits, but bring lunch and snacks

3. Bring a notepad and pen

4. We'll be doing a foam rolling and injury prevention session, so please bring the following equipment with you:

Foam Roller - suggestion 1, suggestion 2
(Smooth, nothing too nobbly!)

Massage Ball
(Nothing with spikes, even a tennis ball would be fine!)

Resistance Bands
(You will need a set of bands)
