Poems for young children with brain tumours

Here you will find poems written for young children with a brain tumour. The poems on this page have been written by our supporter Kate Snow, who is living with a brain tumour, and illustrated by our Young Ambassador Laura Maree.

"I was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioma in 2006 and breast cancer in 2011. I have worked on newspapers and magazines for many years and have been writing poems for children for the last 10 years, winning an award for one in a national poetry competition in 2011. I'm mum to Luke and Lily and I love (in no particular order) liquorice allsorts, shopping, brass bands, portrait painting, shopping, thrillers, Radio 4, dogs and shopping." Kate Snow

Laura Maree, was just 16 when she lost her mother, Joan, to a brain tumour. By the time her diagnosis was finally made, Joan's symptoms had worsened significantly and she was told that she had just months to live. Since her loss, Laura has pledged to do all she can to raise awareness of brain tumours and funds for research so that other young people don't have to go through what she has experienced.

The poems and illustrations below have been written and designed to address some of the subjects that affect a child who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour in a fun and creative way.

We also have a poem written by Helen whose son Leo was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016. The poem is about the plans that Leo and his brother made for the summer holidays.
