Since we lost Dad we always wanted to do something to honour him. He was a huge cyclist and his own Dad, our Grandad was Latvian – hence the Kriškināns surname! What better way to mark 7 years since his passing than cycling the whole way to Riga to raise money in his name.

On 3 September 2015, John Kriškināns lost his brain tumour battle, aged 59. John was a keen cyclist, completing some of the toughest stages of the Tour De France and going on regular rides with his friends, the Wolverhampton Wheelers.

Josh and Oli Kriškināns had this in mind when planning their challenge this year. Going back to their Latvian roots, the brothers decided to saddle up and cycle from London to Riga in memory of their beloved dad. In August this year, Oli and Josh set off across Europe on their 2,200 km journey with some of their closest friends and family. Two weeks later they rode into Riga, the capital of Latvia, on the seventh anniversary of their dad’s passing.

After 16 days, covering six countries and a gruelling 2,200 km, the brothers raised over £45,000 for charity. This will go to The Brain Tumour Charity and It’s Time, a charity supporting young adults who have experienced parental loss.

“16 days, 6 countries, 2,200km, 3 crashes & a long drive home. It was all worth it. It was the trip of a lifetime, with memories we’ll always cherish with some of our closest friends and family. Even better to raise so much money for two amazing charities – it’s a proud moment for us both.”
