Two Charities; One Goal. We’ve Partnered with OSCAR’s!

OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity joins forces with The Brain Tumour Charity to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of brain tumours.

We are delighted to announce our latest partnership with OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity. This charity has chosen to support our ‘Better Safe Than Tumour’ campaign with a gift of £10,000. This help enhance awareness of childhood brain tumours.

Better Safe Than Tumour seeks to educate the public on the signs and symptoms of brain tumours far and wide. It will benefit greatly from this boost in funding.

“OSCAR’s are very pleased to work alongside The Brain Tumour Charity once again. Partnership between those of us in the brain tumour community is essential to driving forward improved survival rates and better care for those affected by this dreadful disease.” Phil Martinez, Charity Manager, OSCAR’s Peadiatric Brain Tumour Charity

OSCAR’s is a York-based family-led charity set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, who died aged 9 from a brain tumour in 2014. It supports children and families facing a brain tumour diagnosis. In addition, it funds research into brain tumours and The Brain Tumour Charity have previously had the honour of benefiting from this.

Phil Martinez, Charity Manager of OSCAR’s says, “OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity are so happy to be able to support the Better Safe Than Tumour campaign, specifically its aim to raise the awareness of the different signs and symptoms of brain tumours at the different stages of childhood.”

“Increasing this knowledge for the general public will help with earlier diagnosis and earlier treatment and save lives. You never expect to be part of the brain tumour community and think you don’t need to know this information because it won’t happen to you. We sincerely hope it won’t, but better to be safe and make sure you know how to spot one in case the unthinkable happens.”

‘My own mother was misdiagnosed so many times. As a family, we didn’t see the signs because we just didn’t know what they were. I wish the Better Safe than Tumour campaign had been around, so we could have spotted what was going on before it was already too late. In my job, I hear so many heartbreaking stories from parents who have had the same experience of misdiagnosis with their children. The Better Safe than Tumour campaign will give the public and professionals the knowledge they need to catch this dreadful disease earlier, saving more lives.”

We are so thankful to our friends at OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity for choosing to continue to generously invest in our vital work. Our partnership with OSCAR’s is a shining example of the mighty impact charities can have when they join forces to deliver the same goals, enabling us to move further, faster for the brain tumour community. Collaboration is key and we are so proud to work with Family-Led Charities like OSCAR’s
