Twilight Own Walks 2026

Unite your loved ones to create your unique The Twilight Walk Own Walk and join our UK-wide movement that’s raising funds to help us stride towards a brighter future for everybody affected by a brain tumour.

Every Own Walk is a one-of-a-kind event that’s shaped by you and the people who inspire you. For some, it’s about bringing together as many people as possible to celebrate Brain Tumour Awareness Month and look to the future. For others, it’s about gathering their closest loved ones to walk and remember somebody special.

But what every Own Walk has in common is that every step taken and every pound raised will help move us further, faster as we tackle brain tumours on three vital fronts – funding pioneering research, providing life-changing support and campaigning for urgently-needed change.

Getting Started

All you need to get started is to set a route through a location that’s special to you, choose a date to walk and ask people to join you.

Pick your own distance

  • Take on our traditional 5km or 10km
  • Challenge yourself to walk 40km, symbolising our shared goal of defeating the leading cause of cancer death in the under 40s
  • Go all out with 130km – one km for each of the 130 types of brain tumour that affect the community.

Advice on planning your walk

Frequently asked questions

The Twilight Walk is for everyone, of all ages and abilities. By holding your own walk, you can choose the distance and route that best suits you and your needs.

We ask that you try to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100 per person. However, if you’re not able to raise the full £100 we’d still love you to take part in the walk.

What’s more, if you raise at least £100, we’ll send you your very own commemorative Twilight Walk medal! The first 100 sign ups who also set up a Just Giving page and receive a donation will also receive a Twilight Walk Pin Badge.

If you set up a JustGiving page and raise over £300, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 M&S vouchers, there will be 4 separate winners (launches in January 2026 – 31st March 2026).

For Twilight Own Walks, we only require the organiser of the walk to sign up (not all participants). We will then send the organiser information on how to let us know how many people are walking with you (if you are in a group) and how to order t-shirts for them as well if these are needed.

If you are the main contact and have opted to have a t-shirt when signing up to The Twilight Own Walk, this will be sent to you in the post. Extra T-shirts can be ordered any time before your walk, but please make sure you let us know at least 2 weeks prior to ensure they arrive with you in time. T-shirts can only be ordered by the organiser of the walk.

To order extra T- shirts information can be found within the walk organisers welcome email when signing up. If you have taken part in a previous Twilight Walk and already have a t-shirt please reuse where you can. Our t- shirt sizes range from XS to XXXL and we also supply children’s sizes between the ages of 3- 11.

If you are taking part in the Own Walk Twilight Walk, those that raise more than £100 will also receive a medal in the post.

The longer the walk and/or the larger the group, the more planning you’ll need. Here are a few things to think about in planning your route:

  • Will you be walking on private land and need the owner’s permission?
  • Pick a time and date in March that works for you.
  • If you’re taking on a longer walk, should you split it into segments?
  • Decide where to start and end your walk. Many of our walkers choose a location that holds special meaning to them or a loved one.
  • Is the route accessible?
  • For larger walks, are there toilets and parking nearby?
  • Do you want to end somewhere you can have drinks and snacks?
  • Are there any road closures that could disrupt your walk?

We know many people are looking forward to coming together in person to help raise vital funds and awareness to accelerate a cure. Below are some top tips to get a team together – big or small – to walk with you.

  • Start a text group – Add loved ones to a messaging group where they can ask questions, know who’s involved, and share photos and tips.
  • Post on social media – Ask others to join you and let them know where they can sign up.
  • Make it an event – Invite friends and family to a Facebook event. You could also open your event to friends-of-friends and build your team through networks too.
  • Canvas colleagues – Put a message on your company intranet or in your staff newsletter. A walk is a great team-building event.

  • Pick a front and back walker to help make sure everyone starts and finishes safely.
  • Work out where to put up signs so your walkers can’t get lost.
  • Have a first aid kit, just in case of blisters, scraped knees or bashed elbows!
  • We also advise you complete a risk assessment for any activity involving others outside of your household to make sure you are highlighting and mitigating any risks. This doesn’t need to be scary or complicated but writing it down will help you work through your options and help others to feel confident you’re keeping everyone safe.
  • There are lots of tools online to help you, including Resource Centre’s guide to risk assessments for community groups.

“When my dad was living with a brain tumour, he organised charity walks for the Brain Tumour Charity to raise funds and awareness. Organising a local Twilight Walk, therefore, felt like a fitting way to fundraise in his memory. It was really special to see everyone coming together for the walk, especially those who had previously walked alongside my dad, and helped in his fundraising efforts.”
