Alfie’s story

Alfie was a full of spirit, fun-loving little boy.

In April 2010 he started to lose his balance, his speech became slurred and his lip began to droop; after an MRI scan it was confirmed Alfie had a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. The consultant gave him a life expectancy of less than a year. His family and friends were devastated.

Alfie came out of hospital and celebrated his 5th birthday. He was prescribed steroids, which at first helped to suppress the symptoms.

In June Alfie started a 6-week course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. His courage during all he had to endure was amazing.

In July and August many special moments were shared with Alfie, but by the end of August Alfie had deteriorated and he took a turn for the worse.

In September Alfie came home for his final few weeks. Although he was very poorly at this stage – he had lost the use of his legs, he was tube-fed and could not speak – he still managed to put his thumb up and smile. Alfie died peacefully, waiting until his mummy’s birthday on 22nd September 2010.

The lovely ladies from The Alfie Say Fund produced the “We’ve got it covered” calendar in 2014 to raise vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity

About The Alfie Say Fund

Alfie touched so many people’s hearts in his short time in this world. Many people have requested to do something to raise money in his memory. Research is the only way to find the cause and eventual cure of this terrible disease. We have created a fundraising team called M.A.D. (Make Alfie’s Day) in his memory, and many people have pledged to help us.

Fundraising

The Original Factory Shop’s Oxted branch are fundraising for The Alfie Say Fund as part of their 2013 Make a Difference campaign. The objective is for each OFS store to raise at least £500 for their partner charity through various local fundraising efforts.
