Despite every indication that an increased Conservative majority was looming, the Labour Party made significant gains across the UK to force a hung parliament – a situation where no political party occupies an overall majority of seats in the House of Commons.
Contrary to many expectations, the Conservatives are set to finish narrowly short of an overall majority on 319 seats. Meanwhile, Labour are expected to increase their seats by 29 to secure 261 seats in total. The full result can be viewed at the bottom of this article.
Even with losses in parliamentary seats, Theresa May’s Conservatives are nonetheless in a strong position to form a government with support from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). We will update you on these developments when more news emerges.
Despite the unexpected outcome, the result doesn’t change things for brain tumour patients and their families. The issues that matter to our community remain vitally important and we will continue to engage with elected representatives and other key decisions makers to drive change where it is needed, because a cure can’t wait.

The announcement of a snap General Election caught many people by surprise, including ourselves. However, we know that a cure can’t wait so we didn’t either. A week after the announcement, we launched our #YourVoiceMatters campaign, to promote four key policy asks.
